Design Engineer

About this role

We're reimagining how humans and AIs interact with the web—and we're hiring our first Design Engineer to help bring that vision to life. In this role, you'll work closely with our founding team to design and build novel interfaces that sit on top of our web-scale infrastructure and AI APIs. From prototyping new user experiences to extending our brand across multiple surfaces, you'll have a rare opportunity to define the visual and functional language of a new category of software. As our first dedicated design hire, you'll have end-to-end ownership over design and front-end implementation. This is a deeply creative, technical, and high-leverage role where the things you design will be shipped quickly, refined in production, and used by companies building at the frontier of AI.

What you'll do

• Design and build novel interfaces on top of web-scale infrastructure and AI APIs
• Have end-to-end ownership over design and front-end implementation
• Work hands-on with engineers to explore how AI can reshape the way people consume, filter, and act on information
• Prototype new user experiences and extend brand across multiple surfaces
• Define the visual and functional language of a new category of software
• Turn cutting-edge infrastructure into beautifully usable tools
• Ship designs quickly, refine in production, and iterate based on user feedback

What we're looking for

• 2 - 6 years of experience in design with a significant portfolio of impressive designs
• Strong proficiency in Next.js, TypeScript, and Figma
• Experience with end-to-end design and front-end implementation
• Ability to work hands-on with engineers and technical teams
• Creative and technical mindset with attention to detail
• Ability to work in-person in Palo Alto most days (or commute from SF)
• Portfolio demonstrating shipped products and real user impact
